National STEM Day: How Science and Medicine Drive Innovation in Education

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These fields shape everything: from the medicines we take to the technologies we use and the systems that keep our communities healthy. Not only that, but these four fields are interconnected. They are essential for our lives as they drive discovery, innovation, and the search for real-world solutions.

Every November 8th, we celebrate National STEM Day. National STEM Day is a day to honor curiosity and innovation. It is also a day to reflect on the spirit of discovery. In that reflection, we might discover that STEM is also about having the courage to solve sometimes difficult problems that truly matter. Indeed, it is about taking on problems that nobody dared to tackle before.

Likewise, at Indelible Learning, STEM means even more. We believe meaningful learning can make the world a better place and that the “M” in STEM should also stand for Medicine. And in a truly indelible spirit, doing it all with compassion and care.

Our innovative and at times cutting-edge teams design award-winning serious games and digital learning tools that make science and medicine meaningful.

Our programs combine education technology, engineering, public health, and medical sciences to create interactive, research-based learning experiences that inspire, inform, and empower.

Our award-winning serious games and real-world simulations bring complex topics to life:

  • The Handwashing Trainer teaches players correct hand hygiene and infection prevention through playful, evidence-based quests and interactions.
  • The End of Imperial, our innovative mystery games, engage students in health, sleep health, drowsy driving, and exploration of STEM careers. Medical mysteries and clinical case-based learning help students think like medical detectives, science detectives, scientists, and clinicians.
  • And our Election Lab Strategy Game connects STEM and data science and data literacy with civic literacy, the electoral college, and US Presidential elections. Designed in a masterful way, it is helping players explore how evidence, technology, competition, and informed decision-making increase civic engagement and civility.

All these programs reflect our belief that meaningful learning should be interconnected and indelible. It should connect disciplines, mirror the real world, and nurture empathy and quests for knowledge as much as intellect.

Through these experiences, students explore how real-world evidence, systems thinking, and data drive both medicine, public health, and voting and elections.

Beyond STEM innovation, we at Indelible Learning are deeply committed to mentorship and providing opportunities for students. Each year, we mentor high school students on science research and capstone projects.

We guide them through hands-on internships and research experiences. We also support their admission into top undergraduate and graduate programs. Many of our mentees go on to publish, present nationally, or pursue careers in medicine, engineering, and data science. Watching our interns grow into confident scientists, engineers, data scientists, or future physicians is one of the most rewarding parts of our work.

Let your light shine. Be Indelible.
Let your light shine Be Indelible

STEM, and now STEM with Medicine, is for us more than a set of disciplines. It is an overall mindset of curiosity, determination, inquiry, creativity, and service.

We believe that together, we can inspire the next generation to use knowledge for good. We inspire youth and future generations to light the way toward a more informed, healthier, and connected world.

At Indelible Learning, we shine a light on what’s possible when innovation and determination meet purpose.
