International Serious Play Conference
Dr Jasminka and Stuart Criley are, once again, selected as speakers at the prestigious international Serious Play Conference. This marks their fourth appearance, following their talks in 2019, 2021, and 2023.
This year, the University of Toronto, Mississauga, will host this conference, from August 12-14, 2024.
Serious Play Conference is an international event that focuses on exploring the use of play, games, and simulations across sectors. These sectors include: K-12 and higher education, healthcare, government, the military, corporate environments, and humanitarian work. This conference spans a wide array of topics—from board games to digital experiences, VR/AR, simulations, instructional design, and games for health.
With nearly 100 sessions and over 130 speakers, Serious Play 2024 conference promises to be an unforgettable event.
Transform Classrooms with Indelible Learning: Discover Two Innovative Ed Tech Games
Dr Jasminka and Stuart Criley will present two of their award-winning and research-driven novel edtech games: Election Lab and End of Imperial. Both of these games combine Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) in interdisciplinary ways to engage learners.
- Election Lab: Saving Democracy with Data Literacy
- Election Lab is an educational innovation. It’s development has been supported by prestigious SBIR grants from the U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences.
- Election Lab Online is one of a kind multiplayer game that tackles some important national problems including civic engagement and data literacy.
- This talk is extremely relevant and timely in anticipation on 2024 US Presidential election.
- End of Imperial: From Escape Room to Computer Game
- Team Criley has been working on medical mysteries for at least 8+ years.
- As an MD, Dr Jasminka Criley, MD, FACP, FHM has been an outstanding “Medical Detective” during her 30+ years of clinical work.
- Accordingly, working on medical mysteries is a second nature to these innovators.
- This particular innovation is a result of Team Criley ingenuity and innovative approach to game development and problems they tackle. These problems are relevant to real life.
- End of Imperial evolved from successful escape-room style program.
- Research and Development for End of Imperial was possible through awards from the National Institutes of Health, National Institutes for General Medical Sciences.
- This innovation addresses the problems of sleep health, healthy habits, health and science career explorations, critical thinking, and other important 21st century skills.
Both of these games exemplify Team Criley commitment to educational innovation, making complex topics accessible through engaging, research-based transformational digital innovations.

Jasminka Vukanovic-Criley MD, FACP, FHM is a multiple award-winning physician, from cancer researcher, internal medicine physician, and Medical School Associate Clinical Professor to entrepreneur.
